SUMMER 2023
Summer 2023 – Game One & Two ReCap - By Louis D'Arcio – August 15, 2023
Bruins Split Opening Games
The
LI-Bruins started their inaugural season in Midnight Hockey with a loss to
the All City team and a win versus the Rebels.
Game one on August 1st showed the rust of not playing together in
over a year against a squad that plays all year long, as well as, for a
number of years. The 2 teams
traded goals in the first to get to the break tied 3-3.
The Bruin goals came from Brenden Cooper (2) and James Brue.
In the 2nd period All City scored a rare short-handed goal
that was equalized 3 minutes later by Liam McDonald. All City quickly
rebounded less than a minute later and potted their 3rd goal of
the period with less than a minute remaining.
The
final period was all All City with a blitz of 3 goals in just over a minute,
coming in at 12:24, 11:52 and 11:19.
After that they went into defense mode and no matter how hard the
Bruins tried, they couldn’t light the lamp.
What a difference a week makes, August 7th had the Bruins line up
against the Rebel at the Newbridge Arena.
It looked to be a low scoring game as both teams were unable to get
on the scoreboard in the first.
A
minute and half into the 2nd, the Rebels got one past Bruins
netminder, Kevin Reis, to take an early lead.
The Bruins were not worried and continued to press offensively and
were rewarded 2 minutes later with a Liam McDonald goal.
On the ensuing face off, Liam grabbed the loose puck and drove
straight to the net and scored again, ten seconds after the first. The quick
counterattack from the Bruins put the Rebels on their heels for the rest of
the game. Four more goals (about
2 minutes apart each) from Brenden Cooper (2 again), Patrick
McDonald, and Danny Hickcox locked up the win.
A Mike Carleo tally early in the 3rd was the icing on the
cake.
The
Bruins will take to the newly resurfaced Iceland on Wednesday, August 16th
for a 9:45PM puck drop against the Long Island Express.
